Vintage Trivet Hartford Bakery Hot Pads-Dutch Boy & Girl Theme-Set 4 Eat Bread

These are vintage advertising trivets or hot pads for Hartford Bakery’s « Butter Nut Bread » and « Golden Toast Bread ». The Hartford Bakery, Inc. was a commercial bakery in Evansville, Indiana, later acquired by Lewis Bakeries in 1964. The items feature nostalgic illustrations of characters promoting the bread brands. Hartford Bakery was a family-owned business known for introducing the iconic « Bunny Bread » brand in 1947. The « Butter Krust » brand has deep roots in Texas, with a history linked to a family of German immigrants. Lewis Bakeries is one of the largest wholesale bakeries in Indiana. These trivets are likely made from pressed cardboard. Stained from being used and well loved by my grandmother over the years.

THE CRATE ALSO HAS A WOODEN GRIP HANDLE ON METAL HINGES. THE INSIDES ARE CARDBOARD SQUARES WHICH HOLD EACH EGG INDIVIDUAL AND KEEP IT FROM CRACKING UP. I AM SURE THERE WAS A PATENT PENDING ON THIS DANDY. A GREAT COUNTRY KITCHEN CURIO WHIMSY. THE BOX MEASURES 9.5″ BY 7.25″ BY 9.5″ FINE OLD PATINA. UNIQUE AGRICULTURAL / AGRICULTURE NOVELTY RARE / UNIQUE / HARD TO FIND CIRCA 1920 – 1930.
