Original Vintage BROADSIDE 1908 AUCTION Equestrian Croton Falls NY, 6 Horses

Large broadside paper poster advertising an auction in Croton Falls, NY on June 11, 1908 selling horses, equipment and furniture. W.A. Ferris is the auctioneer, Solomon Hults is the deceased estate owner. His widow Louise Hults is the ‘executrix.’ The broadside measures 14” wide by 21” long. Condition is good, there are old fold marks and a couple tears. A few light stain marks at corners. ‘1908’ is hand written in pencil. Great piece for the collector of equestrian items, Croton Falls area historical artifacts and the family names listed. It is in a clear plastic sleeve, I will ship with it unless specified otherwise. Will ship rolled in tube.

History: Around 1870 partnered with Elijah Gammon, providing $40,000 in funding for the production of a horse-drawn grain harvester developed by brothers William and Charles Marsh. By 1872 the company showed $80,000 in profits, and in 1873 the name was changed to Gammon & Deering Co. to reflect Deering’s management role. By 1879 Deering was the sole owner and the company’s name had been changed to Deering Manufacturing Company.The Deering Company and the reorganized Plano Harvester Company competed aggressively with each other and the McCormick Havesting Machine Co., but in 1902, under his son’s direction, all three companies merged to form the International Harvesting Co.
